FAQ

What is Print Sense?

Print Sense is a print and copy management system that utilizes a software application to monitor printing in the Library and Computer Labs, and copying in the Library.  Print Sense has been installed to reduce inefficient paper and toner consumption, which has a negative impact on both the environment and costs.  Implementing this system will permit you to print or copy what’s needed, eliminating unnecessary printing and copying.

What is GetIt?

GetIt is a stored value account on the TCNJ ID card. To utilize this feature money must be deposited into your GetIt account.

Process

How does the Print Sense system work?

The Print Sense printing system is comprised of several components: a user workstation/computer, a Print Release Station (NetZTouch pads in the Library), a Print Server, the Printer Accounting Server and printers.

The Library Print Release Station (NetZTouch pads):
print-screen
When a Library or Lab workstation/computer user requests a print or copy job, the Printer Accounting server will automatically check to see if the account exists and determine if there is enough money in the account to pay for the print or copy job. The system will ask the student to select the print requested before debiting the GetIt account.Once the print jobs is selected, the system will automatically debit your Card GetIt account $0.05 for each black and white page printed, $0.10 for black and white double sided/duplex.

When using a lab computer, outside of the Library, user requests a print job, the Printer Accounting server will automatically check to see if the account exists and determine if there is enough money in the account to pay for the print job. A pop up will appear on the workstation/computer used to print the job.  The system will automatically debit your CardGetIt account $0.05 for each black and white page printed, $0.10 for black and white double sided/duplex.

The cost of printing in color in the Art Lab (PPhaser) is $2.00 per page.

Print Sense shows each student how much they’ve printed and copied.  Print and copy costs are applied against each student’s GetIt account.

What print jobs can I see?

If you look at the print queue, you’ll see all pending print jobs.  However when you swipe your TCNJ ID Card at the print release device, you’ll only see your pending print jobs, those print jobs you have submitted.

How long do I have to print my job?

Print jobs will remain in the print queue for 24 hours in the Library.  You can print, or delete, your print job anytime within these 24 hours.

What printer did my job go to?

When in the Library, print jobs are sent to a generic queue called PLibraryQueue.  You can go to any printer in the Library to release your print job via the Print Release Station (NetZTouch pads).  Additional information can be found at Print Release Documentation.

When in the Computer Labs, outside of the Library, the print job can be released at the computer you are using/logged into, to the printer in the Lab that you specify.  You will need to select the printer.

A color printer is also available using the Art Lab computers. The color printer is PPhaser and costs are $2.00/page.

How does copying work with Print Sense?

All copiers in the Library are connected to the Print Sense system. Swipe your TCNJ ID Card in the Print Release Station (NetZTouch pads in the Library) in order to make copies.  All copies are charged to your GetIt account in the same way as prints.
